IO1: Descriptive map of effective pedagogical approaches

A descriptive map of effective pedagogical approaches will enable teachers to better understand how to include children with special educational needs in mainstream classrooms. IO1 will determine and examine the nature of pedagogical approaches, particularly classroom learning environments and teaching methods and styles, which enable children who experience difficulties in learning to participate fully in the community of learners in mainstream classrooms.

IO2: 5 mobile games to support effective pedagogical approaches selection

This output will deliver 5 mobile games that allow to perform measurements and that will provide input for the mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement app (IO3).
An Android based set of mobile games, designed according to findings from IO1, will allow for collecting data that will support the mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement app (IO3) to be performed by teachers on children with mild/moderate learning difficulties, in combination with the associated manual for teachers.

IO3: Mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement App

This output will deliver the integrated mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement App , including the games (O2).
An Android based mobile App will allow for mobile pedagogical measurements to be performed by teachers on children with mild/moderate learning difficulties, in combination with the associated manual for teachers.
The mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement App will perform following activities:

  • posture and body movement
  • gesture tracking
  • facial expression monitoring
  • eye gaze
  • EEG brain activity
  • thermal data

IO4: Handbook for teacher educators on usage descriptive map of effective pedagogical approaches

This output will define the handbook, which can be blended with existing special education training courses and learning materials, as well as relevant courses across the participating educational institutions (pedagogy, etc.).

IO5: Manual for teachers on using the mobile pedagogical attention/engagement measurement App

This output will define the manual outline which can be blended with existing special education courses training and learning resources, as well as relevant courses across the participating educational institutions (pedagogy, etc.).

IO6: Impact and best practices report

The Impact and best practices report will consist of a thorough evaluation of the usability of the O2, O3, O4 and O5 in terms of their effectiveness, impact in terms of improved skills and competencies for teachers in deciding on the relevant pedagogical measures to be taken for pupils with moderate/mild learning difficulties.
This requires a longitudinal research and assessment approach, hence with the project is also a 3 year project. We envisage 30 teachers from special/inclusive education per country will be involved.
